Joseph 'Joe' Anthony Silva

Joseph "Joe" Anthony Silva passed away peacefully at Woodland Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family on Friday, Jan. 18, at the age of 94.
Joe was born April 8, 1918 in Woodland, to Joseph and Anna Silva. He lived and attended school in Newman, as a child and young adult. During World War II
he served in the U.S. Army's 494th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Division from 1941 through 1945. He was stationed in Iceland, Northern France, England and Germany. When he was discharged he returned home to the love of his life, Mamie Pimentel, after courting through the exchange of many letters that are cherished to this day. They married on September 11, 1946 and celebrated 66 years together last year.
Joe retired from the Yolo County Public Works Department as a road maintenance supervisor in April 1983 following 30 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW
Post 1985 of Woodland and the Cabrillo Club No. 26, and a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He was an active player in the Pedro League for many years.
Survivors include his wife Mamie, daughters Joanne Danielson, Judy Oliver and companion Ben Adamo, as well as son Jim Silva and wife Teri, all of Woodland. Joe is also survived by grandchildren Marc Oliver and wife Michele from Fortuna, Chris Danielson of Woodland, Ryan Silva and wife Kim of Sacramento, Tiffanie Allgood and husband Ryan of West Sacramento, and Beth Olmstead of Sacramento. He is also survived by 3 1/2 great-grandchildren: Joseph and Amelia Oliver of Fortuna, Ethan Allgood of West Sacramento, and Romy Silva, who is soon to be born in Sacramento. Other survivors include brothers William and George Silva from Turlock.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Anna Silva, brothers Ernst, Daniel and Manual of Turlock, and sisters Evelyn Nunes, Irene Pimentel of Martinez, and Virginia Santos of Daly City.
The Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church officiated by Father Colm O'Kelly. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, 860 West St., Woodland. In lieu of flowers the family prefers contributions to Holy Rosary Church Foundation or the Cabrillo Club Scholarship program. A reception will be held at the Yolo Fliers Club, 17980 County Road 94B, Woodland following the services.
