Kurt Ray Arnold(1961 — 2013)

Kurt Ray Arnold
Aug. 8, 1961 – July 29, 2013

Kurt Arnold went home to be with Jesus on Monday, July 29, 2013, finally succumbing to his one-year, excruciating battle with stomach cancer. He passed away completely at peace and is suffering no more. Amazingly he was able to share final laughs and smiles with family and friends before he fell asleep for the last time.
Kurt Ray Arnold was born on Aug. 8, 1961 in Bakersfield to Kermit Ray Arnold and Mary Virginia Padilla. In 1969 Kurt's family moved to the town of Arcata in Humboldt County where he would spend all of his teenage years. He graduated from Arcata High School in 1980 where he met the love of his life and future spouse of 30 years, Teresa Joann Gurney. After graduating he made the decision to start a career in the oil field business by moving down to Ventura in 1981. Shortly following his move he proposed to his girlfriend of five years and on April 30, 1983 the two finally said "I do". In July of 1983 the two moved to Woodland where Kurt lived for the remainder of his life. Kurt continued to work in the oilfield business with various companies working his way to eventually become the Area Manager for the company National Oilwell Varco Brandt.
Kurt was a member of Calvary Baptist Church through his lifetime and he was involved in countless clubs, sports, and organizations. Whether it was while he was managing baseball in Woodland Little League or Babe Ruth, hunting with his children and friends out in Knights Landing Sportsmans Club, or being at Don's Diner for breakfast almost every morning he was always a positive influence, and never lost his faith in God and affected everybody around him with his laughter, positive attitude and enormous heart. Kurt's regular hobbies consisted of either coaching or watching (you couldn't really tell the difference) each of his son's sporting events, camping up in the Humboldt Redwoods every year, pheasant hunting with family and friends, taking care of the yard, and of course playing fantasy or gambling leagues for every sport.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 30 years, Teresa (Teri) Arnold and their three sons Kristopher, Kory, and Kameron; father Kermit Ray Arnold (Charlene), mother Mary Virginia Padilla, father and mother- in-law Richard and Barbara Gurney, brother Keith Arnold, sisters Lanette and husband Daniel Cook, Crystina Arnold, and Yvonne Scott and his nieces and nephews Ray and Alison Marsh, Carissa Arnold, and Andrew, Ansleigh, and Anderson Cook.
While we will miss our dad tremendously, we will always be able to remember him in our hearts for the tremendous, warm memories that he constantly brought upon us. James 1:12: "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him (NIV.)"
A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Calvary Baptist Church, 506 Cottonwood St., Woodland. A reception will follow at the Trafican Family Home (their address will be available at the service). Ashes will be scattered at a later time. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Kameron Arnold Scholarship fund c/o Wells Fargo Bank Acct. No. 3663088411 or Woodland Christian High School Athletics. Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
