Manuel Joseph Nunez passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the age of 70. He was born on Dec. 1, 1942, in Woodland to the late Manuel and Pearl (Espigares) Nunez. Manuel grew up in Calexico where he graduated from Calexico High School in 1962. He attended Imperial Valley College and Cal Poly, Pomona where he studied Business Agriculture. He also served honorably in the National Guard. Manuel managed the Calexico Chamber of Commerce in the early seventies and for almost 20 years he was the owner of Norms Liquor in Calexico. In the early 1990s Manuel moved to Woodland to be closer to family. Once in Woodland, he managed different Auto Zone stores and retired from Auto Zone in 2010.
Manuel is survived by his daughters Gabriella (Felipe) Enciso and Dominique (Andrew) Barnet; brother-in-law, Carlos Gutierrez; nephew David (Donna) Gutierrez and niece Karla (Michael) Chudy; grandchildren, Sofia, Ana and Juan Enciso and Ali and Jack Barnet and his great nephew and nieces, Nicole and Derek Gutierrez and Hannah and Megan Chudy. He was preceded in death by his father, Manuel in 1989; mother, Pearl in 2007 and his beloved sister, Sally Gutierrez in 2011.
Manuel will always be remembered for his friendliness and humor. He will be truly missed by many.
A Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 12, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St. Woodland.
