Pearl Jones, longtime Rumsey resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at age 99 in Woodland. Born Pearl Esther Weitz on Jan. 28, 1914, in Oklahoma, she moved to Oregon in 1922 with her parents and 13 siblings. In 1946 she moved to California where she met and married the love of her life, Harry Jones. They were married in Tracy April 3, 1949 and lived in Rumsey in the house Harry built, for their entire 54 years together. Harry passed away Feb. 16, 2003. Harry and Pearl grew almonds and walnuts. In the Capay Valley, Pearl was a member of the Guinda Methodist Church where she served as treasurer, organist, youth choir director, and youth fellowship director. She was active in Mothers' Club, Guinda Grange and 4-H, and served on the election board. An accomplished quilter, Pearl made dozens of quilts for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Pearl is survived by daughters Pauline McDougal, Boise, Idaho; Patti Stange, Lincoln; Peggy Scherwinka, Sacramento; Glenda Grey, Sacramento; and Sibyl Barnum, Portland, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, sisters Delma Laux, Colusa, and Mary Cunnington, Bothell, Wash.; and brother Charles Weitz, Tracy. She was preceded in death by son Lynn Jones in 2009.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Kraft Brothers Funeral Home, 175 Second St., Woodland, followed by a 3 p.m. service at the Capay Cemetery, 24727 County Road 22, Esparto. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Pearl's name be made to a charity of the donors' choice.
