Carrol was born Sept.12, the fourth of eight children born to James and Mattie Teel in Electra, Texas and died at his home on Saturday, July 13, 2013.
After graduating from Electra High School in 1937, Carrol attended Wichita Falls Jr. College and Denton State Teacher's College before transferring to Baylor University where he graduated in 1941.
Carrol taught in Texas for one year, and then joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942. He trained as a navigator and served in the China, India, and Burma theaters of war. He remained on active duty until 1950 when he transferred to the Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1979.
In 1950, Carrol returned to Baylor University for his master's degree, and the University of Texas and University of Colorado where he did work toward a doctorate in constitutional law.
After moving to Woodland, in 1954, Carrol taught for 28 years at Beamer Elementary School, and Lee, and Douglas junior high schools until his retirement in 1983.
Carrol is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 63 years; son Kelly, daughter-in-law Marisa; and grandson Matthew of San Luis Obispo; daughter Byra of Middleton, Idaho; grandson Nickolas Hestead of California and granddaughter Elyse Hestead-Murphy and husband John, and their children Johnny and Logan of Nampa, Idaho.
Carrol is also survived by his sister Mary Hyink of Fort Worth, Texas, and brothers Almon of Merced, James of Abilene, Texas, and Oren of Auberry; and many nieces and nephews. A long life, well lived by an honorable man.
A graveside service has been scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, July 26, at the Sacramento Valley Veteran's Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon.
