George M. Fiddler, 90, of Fruitland, Idaho, passed away on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at his home. His sons Randy and Steve were with him at the time of his passing.
George was born on Feb. 1 1, 1923 in Healdsburg, the son of Joseph and Lois Fiddler. He was raised in Woodland. He served in the U.S. Navy during all four years of World War II, enlisting the day after Pearl Harbor was bombed. After the war, he married his teenage sweetheart Hazel Phipps, also of Woodland where they started a family and George began his professional career as a law enforcement officer. He was a sheriff's deputy in Yolo County, served as chief of police in Payette, Idaho; chief of police in Atwater; sergeant with the Port of Sacramento Police; and captain of the Yolo County Sheriff's Office where he retired in 1979.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Hazel. He is survived by daughter Sheryn and husband Lloyd Flowers; son Steven and wife Donna; daughter Georgia and husband Clayton Edgy; and son Sherman "Randy" and wife Stephanie; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; as well as by a sister Evelyn Hunter of Esparto. He was a tremendous father and a true professional in his career, admired and loved by his family and many friends.
At his request there will be no public funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to St. Luke's MSTI, Fruitland, 1118 NW 16th St., Fruitland, Idaho, 83619. Condolences can be made to the family at www.lienkaemper-thomas.com.
