April 1, 1932 - Jan. 25, 2018 Carmen G. Lopez passed away peacefully in her Winters home on Jan. 25, at the age of 85. Carmen was born April 1, 1932 in El Marmol, Guanajuato, MX, and was the eldest of her 11 siblings. She immigrated to the US in 1963 with her family and has since been a resident of Winters. She wass a mother to eight children, grandmother of 24, great-grandmother of 21, and great-great grandmother of two. She was a stay at home mother and her family and children meant the world to her. Nothing brought her more happiness than the company of her grandchildren, family and friends. Carmen Lopez truly was the most giving, loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was also known to have a blunt sense of humor that was appreciated by all. Her home was always open to others and she was adamant in making sure every person she met was welcome. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, was an avid gardener, enjoyed cooking food for everyone, and could always be seen dressed in her favorite color, red. She had many times faced difficult trials in her life and relied on her strong faith in God to see her through. Carmen was a Godly woman and encouraged her children to seek him. She was matriarch to and the heart of the Lopez family. Her strength, wisdom and presence will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lorenzo C. Lopez; her father, Martin Gutierrez; mother, Ramona Valdez; brother, Jorge Gutierrez, and granddaughter, Linda Lopez. She is survived by her children, Luis (Evangelina) Lopez, Rosa (Joe) Gutierrez, Juan (Debbie) Lopez, Ramon (Irma) Lopez, Marina Lopez, Gloria Lopez, Lupe (Joe) Romero, and Lorenzo Jr. (Angelica) Lopez. She was respected, loved and treasured by many. She will forever be remembered. A time of visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m., at St. Anthony's Parish Church, 511 Main St., Winters. Mass and burial will be Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Anthony's Parish Church, with a celebration of her life to follow after at St. Anthony Parish Hall.
