Martha C. Hoppin Fritschi
June 19, 1916 - March 18, 2014

Martha C. Hoppin Fritschi, 97, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2014 at St. John's Retirement Village. She was born on June 19, 1916, to Joshua and Mary Crew of Berkeley, where she attended Berkeley public school, graduating from Berkeley High School.
Martha graduated from UC Berkeley, where she was a member and president of Kappa Alpha Theta. While at Cal she met her future husband, Price Hoppin. Martha and Price returned to Woodland in 1944, where he farmed and they raised their family. She was active with their four children's education and activities in the community. She was a past president of the PTA and a long-time member and president of the Woodland Shakespeare Club as well as a Sunday school teacher at the Episcopal Church.
Martha was also the first female member of the board of directors of Woodland Memorial Hospital. After Price's death in 1982, Martha married John Fritschi in 1987. Later, she sold the family home on Second Street in Woodland and moved to Moraga, where she and John resided until his death. Martha returned to Woodland in November 2013.
Martha is survived by her sons, Dick Hoppin and his wife Muffy of Woodland, Ned Hoppin and his wife Barbara of Mattoon, Ill., and Larry Hoppin and his wife Debbie of Woodland. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Weber and her son-in-law Don Weber in 2013.
At Martha's request, a private service was held.
