July 6, 1952 - Feb. 20, 2013
Peter John Laubacher was a Woodland resident for more than 25 years, and passed away from pancreatic cancer on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013.
Peter was born on July 6, 1952, in Pasadena and was baptized by his uncle and the Right Rev. Monsignor Harold V. Laubacher. Peter grew up in Ventura County where he enjoyed the Boy Scouts, their hikes and campouts, and the county's beautiful beaches. He attended Santa Clara Parish Elementary School in Oxnard and graduated from Santa Clara High School where he participated in track and cross country. After attending Ventura College, Peter proceeded to serve in the U.S. Air Force. As a resident of Woodland, Peter was employed at Court Galvanizing, Inc. and at various Woodland restaurants.
Peter was an active mentor and friend to many in the AA community. He loved AA and succeeded in achieving more than 35 years sobriety. A friend commented with gratitude to Peter's father, "Are you aware of how many people your son has helped in Woodland?" Peter's family would like to thank his many friends in AA who always came to his aid by driving him on a daily basis over a period of many weeks to Travis AFB or Mather AFB for the medical care he required for his illness. The family is especially grateful to Katie Lemaire of Woodland for her many years of kindness and loyal friendship to Peter.
Peter is survived by his parents Paul and Adria Laubacher of Oxnard; brothers Paul (Barbara), Harold (Andrea), Joel (Aggie), Tim (Lisa), Bill (Diana); a sister, Mary Alyce Gisla (John), and many nieces, nephews, and a grand niece.
A Requiem Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Peter at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 4, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, 860 West St., Woodland.
May Peter's soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
