Violet Manhart-Sorensen Obituary
Violet V. Manhart-Sorensen
Oct. 20, 1915 - March 21, 2013

Violet V. Manhart-Sorensen, 97 years and 5 months, passed away quietly on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Colusa Regional Medical Center surrounded by all seven of her children and numerous grandchildren. Violet was born Oct. 20, 1915, on the ranch that her father settled, located at Cortina School and Hahn Roads. She lived her entire life on the ranch. Violet graduated eighth grade from Cortina School and high school at Holy Rosary Academy in Woodland. Growing up as an only child she always said she would never have just one child. She married George F. Manhart on Dec. 12, 1942, and had six children. Their youngest child was only two weeks old at the time he passed away. Swen A. Sorensen a family friend was kind enough to help Violet with the cows and other ranch work that had to be done. Swen and Violet tied the knot on Oct. 1, 1953. After their marriage a daughter was born to join the other six children. Violet loved living in the country, raising the children, having animals around all the time, watching the crops grow and working in her garden. Many family gatherings took place at the ranch throughout the years in which she truly treasured and always expressed how blessed she felt.
Violet was very involved with her children in 4-H and FFA activities, animals and other various projects. The Colusa Co. Fair was always a highlight of the year. She was a sewing leader during this time and later in life she attended the fair watching her grandchildren's projects. Violet was a longtime and very dedicated member of the Parkside Methodist Church where taught Sunday school for many years and held any office asked of her.
She always lived life with the values and morals that she knew were right. Violet was also involved with the Telecare program for several years and was a member of the Willows Travelers Group, with whom she went on several trips and enjoyed everything that she saw and experienced. Violet never passed up the opportunity to take a trip and "Mom how about going here?" was a constant question that she was asked. She lived a very healthy, happy, fulfilled life and left so much behind to her family in lessons taught by her so that they can lead their daily lives with good morals and values. She will be missed by all of us, but will live forever in our hearts.
She is survived by her sons Charles F. Manhart of Arbuckle and John Manhart (Marge) of Williams; daughters Ruby Gobec (Dan) of Camino, Violet Silva (Joe) of Woodland, Claire Froh of Williams, Opal Murphy (Jim) of Yuba City and Rose Anne Sorensen of Arbuckle; grandchildren Jennifer Manhart, Jimmy Manhart (Renee), Erin Mulqueeney (Brett), Kandi Manhart, Jamie Strohmaier (Brando), Kari Gobec, Sheri Gobec, Wendy Silva, Charlie Froh, Anthony, Adam, Audie and Andy Murphy (Adalena) and numerous great grandchildren. She is also survived by Emma Velasquez and Rondy McCoy who each gave so much love, extra special care and companionship to Mom/Grandma in which was so appreciated by her and the family. She was preceded in death by her father George Franklin Green and mother Birdie G. DeBolt Green; husbands George F. Manhart and Swen A. Sorensen and longtime family member Robert W. Bailey.
