June Elizabeth Anastasi Obituary
April 29, 1923 - April 24, 2014

June Elizabeth Anastasi passed away late in the night of April 24th from complications from pneumonia. Her husband of almost 74 years, Antone F. Anastasi, Jr., and their daughters and daughter-in-law were at her side.

Born in 1923 to Joseph M. and Marie (Arana) Resch and the eldest of six children, June would have celebrated 91 years this April 29th.

June met her future husband, Antone, at a youth sports event in San Francisco in 1939 and they fell madly in love. They were married in 1940 and shortly thereafter started their own family.

They moved their growing family to Woodland in 1955, when Antone relocated his business (The Oakland Bean Cleaning & Storage Co.) to Knights Landing.

June had a deep and loving respect for nature, was a staunch defender of wildlife, and showed much compassion for the less fortunate. She so appreciated the land, culture, knowledge and the arts. She had natural artistic talent and also loved music (especially Italian or gypsy Flamenco). She greatly influenced those cultural interests in all of her children and grandchildren. Indeed, June leaves her family a legacy of warmth, beauty, wisdom, compassion, strong convictions and a thirst for knowledge.

Possessing a natural wisdom and a self-educated life-long student, June's vast library reflected areas of passionate interests including history, natural science and genealogy, via her strong Spanish heritage. Her ancestors were the first to establish the Missions of California.

June's last months exemplified her dignity and grace which were so present in her quick smile and earnest 'hello'. She was such an inspiration to her vast family.

June very much loved and is survived by her loving husband, Antone; daughters Jan Schafer (Leroy), Michaele Chamberlin, Elizabeth Gould and daughter-in-law Vollie Anastasi (all of Woodland); daughter Camille Reel (Gene) of Yuba City; and, daughter Gretchen Rowland (Richard) of Danville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren (with another due this summer) and three great-great grandchildren.

June is also survived by her sisters Diane Morger (Gene) of Vacaville and Gloria Ryan of San Francisco; brother Marcus Resch of Half Moon Bay, sister-in-law Sandy Resch of Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

June will be deeply missed by all as she was such a force of nature with all of its beauty and grace.

She was preceeded in death by her infant granddaughter, Angela Anastasi; son, Frank Anastasi; son-in-law, Robert Chamberlin and brothers, Bill and David Resch.

A viewing will be held at McNary's Chapel in Woodland on Sunday, May 4th from 5-8pm, with Rosary being said at 7 p. m. There will be a funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Woodland at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5. Burial will be at Monument Hill and will be followed with a lunch reception at Tumulty Hall, next to the Catholic Church.
