Barbara Mary Proctor
Feb. 4, 1922 - Nov. 7, 2012

Devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Mary Proctor was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Modesto, to the late Frances Winifred Hall and Harry Ezra Potter. She passed away peacefully on Nov. 7, 2012, at age 90. A beauty at birth (and throughout her wonderful life), she was quickly named the "Modesto Rose" in the local baby beauty pageant.
Barbara married John William Proctor on July 5, 1970 and enjoyed 42 years of marriage to a man that adores and cherishes her. They moved to Woodland in 1989. Barbara worked at the Woodland YMCA after-school program. The children and staff enjoyed her creativity and caring for many years. She could often be found serving lunches to the seniors at the Woodland Community Center too.
A trained beautician, she continued to cut hair for the family until her recent illness. Barbara loved her garden and painting and her two "girls" (cats) Sallee and Mollee. Barbara had an abundance of energy and love that she shared generously. She was a skilled listener who intelligently counseled all that sought her advice.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, John; and children Gary (wife Julie), Grant and Roger Henderson and daughter Deborah Johnson (husband Craig); grandchildren Timothy (wife Anita) and Todd, Ciarda Henderson-Geist (husband Steve), Dietrich, Peter and Monika, and Justin Daly (wife Callie); and great-grandchild Carina Geist.
She is also survived by her brother Roger Potter (wife LaVera) and their children Kimberly Duke, Robin Conway (husband Joe), and John (wife Monique) and their children Mary and Lilly Duke; Joseph and Francis Conway; and Trevor and Johnah Potter.
Barbara was blessed to have John's children in her life as well. Surviving her on the Proctor side is Steve (wife Gail), Gary (wife Kate), Ken (wife Wilai) and Bill (wife Eileen). Steve's surviving children include Stephanie Proctor Cook (husband Mikhail).; Rebecca Proctor Thomas (husband Jonathan) and Matt (wife Stacee) and children Cooper and Makena Cook; Nolan, Adele, Reagan and Stella Thomas; and Lexie and Libbey Proctor. Gary's surviving children include Jennifer Valdez (husband Aaron) and Anna. Bills surviving children include Gabriel, Brandon (wife Martine), Liliane and Natasha. Brandon's daughter is Evangeline. Ken's child is Amber.
Barbara touched many lives and will be dearly missed. Please join us in a celebration of life to be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 17, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 515 Second St., Woodland.
