Nancy Mae McCurdy
Oct. 25, 1922 - March 8, 2013
Nancy Mae McCurdy, 90, born in St. Joseph, Mo., passed away peacefully in Woodland, following a short illness.
Nancy was raised and got married in St. Joe. Her husband was a pilot in what became the U.S. Air Force, and they lived in several states by the time he retired in 1964 in California. After her children became adults, she reentered the work force and was an office clerk in San Francisco, a real estate saleswoman (first in California and then in Missouri), and an owner of a Baskin-Robbins franchise in La Mesa. In 2000, she moved to Woodland. At various times, she helped out at the Adult Day Health Care Center and the Senior Center, and was active in the Outa Sight Group of Woodland, a support group for the blind and sight-impaired.
Nancy was an accomplished amateur dancer and an excellent cook, and was forever humming or singing medleys as she went about whatever she was doing. She had many highlights in her life, but one of her favorites more recently was when she danced and sang with Donnie and Marie Osmond for her 89th birthday in Las Vegas.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Sharon (and her husband Bill), her son Gary (and his wife Mary), six grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, her sisters (Ruth Ellen, Thelma, and Arlene) and brother (Elmer, Jr.), and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents (Elmer, Sr., and Edith), and three brothers (Albert, John, and James).
At Nancy's request, there will be no services. The family requests that, in lieu of sending flowers, well-wishers donate to St. John's Retirement Village, 135 Woodland Ave., Woodland, 95695, who provided Nancy with excellent and loving care several times over the past few years during periods of recuperation from earlier surgeries.
