Jack Aage Rye
July 16, 1918 - July 5, 2013
Jack Aage Rye passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, just 11 days short of his 95th birthday. He was a Woodland resident from 1985-2013. Jack was born July 16, 1918, in Chicago and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He served in World War II and then worked at newspapers in Illinois, including The Herald & Review in Decatur where he was state editor. He then joined The Bee's Superior California newsroom staff, where he was a versatile reporter, editor and rewrite man from 1956 to 1981.
Jack is survived by his second wife Janet Wirth Rye of Woodland; sons Jack C. Rye (Georgia) of Sacramento and Kirk I. Rye of Roseville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Sally Ramsden Rye in 1980.
