Gregory Montoya, age 85, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. He passed away peacefully at his home in Woodland with his family at his bedside.
He attended school in Woodland and later joined the U.S. Navy, where he was a Motor Machinist, Third Class, during World War II. He worked for Contadina Foods for 32 years as a warehouse manager before he retired. After a year of retirement and traveling with his wife and family, he decided to go back to work. He then worked for 15 years at UC Davis, as a superintendent of the physical plant before he retired for the final time.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, working on his house, golfing, reading, traveling and taking care of his loved ones.
Greg is survived by his beautiful wife of 65 years, Emma Montoya. He is also survived by daughters Mary Ann Newman and husband David, Gloria Robles and her companion Chic Nishijima; sons Gregory Montoya Jr. and wife Mary, Albert Montoya, and Larry Montoya and wife Veronica. Also surviving is a brother, Joe Montoya; as well as numerous grandchildren, family members and friends.
At Greg's request a private military service will be held on Monday, Oct. 7, at the Sacramento Valley VA Cemetery, 5810 Midway Road, Dixon. The Woodland Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
