Raymond 'Rick' Keith Diffenderffer
July 25, 1937 - Nov. 27, 2013
Raymond "Rick" Keith Diffenderffer, 76, of Woodland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 surrounded by his family. His death comes after a short battle with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. He was born on July 25, 1937 in Oxnard, to the late R.O. (Bud) and Margaret Diffenderffer. He graduated from Santa Clara High School in 1955. He married his High School sweetheart Claudette De Bo in 1956.
In 1963, Rick, Claudette, and their three children (Yvonne, Gary and Steven) moved to Woodland. Thereafter, Rick began a life-long passion of farming in Yolo County with his father-in-law (the late John De Bo) and brother-in-law (John W. (Bill) De Bo). Together as De Bo Ranch they farmed alfalfa, beans, corn, tomatoes and wheat.
Rick was a volunteer fireman for the Willow Oak Fire Department and board member of the California Tomato Growers Associations. He took great pride in his membership with St. Agnes Catholic Church in Zamora where his many hours of donated time were critical to his church family.
Over the past 30 or more years you could find Rick having his morning coffee with numerous friends at the Willow Oak Grocery store. He had a passion for life and touched the hearts and souls of those around him. He will be missed more than words can express.
Rick will be forever remembered by his loving wife of 57 years Claudette Diffenderffer, sons Gary Diffenderffer and Steven Diffenderffer, his daughters Yvonne and husband Tom Allen and Tracey Diffenderffer-Schreiner. He also leaves grandchildren, Kristy Allen, John and wife Connie Allen, Richard Allen, Shelly and husband Jeremy Bivert, Brad and wife Mary Diffenderffer, Keith Schreiner, Emily Schreiner, Holly Hallisy and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his brother Paul Diffenderffer. He was preceded in death by his brother James Diffenderffer.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 9865 Main St., Zamora. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A gravesite burial will follow the service at Mary's Chapel, 12020 County Road 98, Yolo. A celebration of life will be immediately following the burial at the Zamora Town Hall in Zamora.
