Sept. 15, 1934 - April 24, 2016
David Robinson, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 24, in his home surrounded by his loving family. David was born in Woodland to Charles and Alma Frances Evans Robinson. He was one of 16 children all born in Woodland, David being the 16th.
David attended Fillmore Grade School and Woodland High School, graduating in 1952. The day after graduating, he went to work for Schneider and Fricke Farms. He enlisted in the Navy as soon as he turned 21. He left for Long Beach Nov. 12, 1955, to see the world, which he did for four years. He often said the time in the Navy was an adventure of a lifetime and he was proud to have served. He was assigned to the USS Higbee Destroyer (DD806) out of Long Beach, under E.E. Hollyfield, Jr., Commanding Officer. He advanced to Senior Sonarman First Class, for which he received an oustanding performance of duty commendation from his captain.
When his enlistment was up on Oct. 19, 1959, he was offered a great job at the shipyard in Long Beach. When asked why he didn't take it, he said it was time to go home and Woodland was home. Returning home, he married MaryAnn Gordon on June 1, 1963. He worked at Epperson's Auto dealership in the parts department for many years. He then bought his own business: B&M Auto Parts.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as a high priest. David was like the pied piper of the neighborhood for kids and animals. They all came over to visit him when he was outside. His 65th birthday was held in the front yard so all the neighbors could come over for cake and ice cream. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed sitting in his backyard feeding and watching the birds, and working in his garden growing an abundance of tomatoes, which he loved to share. He was also an avid gold miner and enjoyed cruises and road trips.
David is survived by his wife of 53 years this June 1, MaryAnn Robinson; one son, David Michael (Robbie) Robinson; one granddaughter, Rory Robinson and her mother, Kelli Smoot; sisters-in-law, Alice Gordon, Gloria Warren, Ruby Gordon, Irene Gordon, Mikel Gordon; brother-in-law, Kerry Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings: sisters, Lucy Dole, Bessie Barlow, Emma Pierce, Rhoda Fish, Florence Robinson, Louise Lewis, Maybell Altpeter, Olive Puerner; brothers, Frank, Charles Jr., Raymond, George, Elmer, Edward, and James Robinson; in-laws, Kenneth and Vendla Gordon; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Verl, Freddie J, Rex Donald, Dennis Lee, Keven John Gordon, and Dale Warren.
Visitation is scheduled at McNary's Chapel, 458 College, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 29. Graveside service will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35036 County Road 22, Woodland, at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 30.
