Carolyn Dick Newkirk Canandaigua- Carolyn Dick Newkirk, age 90, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at M. M. Ewing Continuing Care Center in Canandaigua. She is survived by her nieces, Carol (Tom) Zimmerman and Judy Newkirk; nephew, Bill Newkirk; great-niece, Kelly Miles; great-nephew, Bill Newkirk and great-great-nephew, Kody Miles. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Marge Newkirk. Carolyn was born in Kingston and was the daughter of William G. and Lena (Dick) Newkirk. She was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1940 and a graduate of Hartwick College in 1945, with honors. From 1945-1946, Carolyn taught English and Social Studies in Stony Point, N.Y. She was employed by AT&T and the New York Telephone Company from 1948-1979. Carolyn was a member of the Fair Street Reformed Church in Kingston, the Junior League of Kingston, Springfield, Mass., and Albany. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Wiltwyck Chapter in Kingston for 65 years. Carolyn moved from Albany to Canandaigua in 1978. She enjoyed golf, needlepoint and was an avid Bridge player for 40 years. Friends may call Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. Her memorial service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Wiltwyck Rural Cemetery in Kingston, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wood Library, 134 N. Main St. Canandaigua, N.Y., 14424 or Sonnenberg Gardens, 1551 Charlotte St., Canandaigua, N.Y., 14424.
