Giles, Dorothy M.* - Port Ewen  
Dorothy M. Giles PORT EWEN- Dorothy M. Giles, 85, of Salem St., a lifelong resident of Port Ewen, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus. Dorothy was born in Port Ewen on Jan. 30, 1930; a daughter of the late William and Emma May (Dubois) Brandt. A member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Dorothy was employed with N.Y. Tel for more than 28 years, retiring 1989. She was previously employed at FW Woolworths, Forst Packing, and Siller Beef Company. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and was a former bowler, a member of the 600 club, and a past member of Fit Lady. Dorothy loved gardening, knitting, crocheting, and tending to her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry “Hype” Giles, Jr.; three daughters, Jody Zaborski, and her husband Gary, of Saugerties, Peg Morano of Ulster Park, and Wendy Giles, and her companion David Longendyke, of Port Ewen; one son, Harry Giles III, and his companion Kathleen Lang, of Saugerties; and five grandchildren, Gary Zaborski, Lindsey and Vincent Morano, Jr., William and Harry Giles IV. She is predeceased by her “sister at heart”, cousin Joan Killeen. “I kept the home fires burning” The family has entrusted the staff of the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, with the care and funeral arrangements for Dorothy. The Giles family will receive friends and family Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, Rev. Justin Johnson, celebrant. Burial will follow at Montrepose Cemetery.

Halstead, Michael A.* - Accord  
Michael A. Halstead ACCORD- Michael A. Halstead, of Accord, passed away suddenly May 12, 2015 at his home. Michael was 44 years old. He was born on Sept. 21, 1970 in Goshen and is survived by his parents Karen and Howard Halstead. His parents and his best bud Ryan Halstead now reside in South Fallsburg N.Y. He was a long time resident of Pine Island, N.Y., and a student in the Warwick Valley Central School District. On this sad day Michael leaves behind his fiancĂ© ( Best Friend), Jamie Slaven and her son, David Lincoln also of Accord; his children, Mariah (Halstead) Thomas and her husband Michael and her children Amaya and Katherine and her mother Joanie Cherry, Michael Jr. Hazzie and Allison Halstead, Wyatt Halstead; his sister, Elizabeth McBeath and her husband Brian of Pennsylvania; his brothers, Timothy and his wife Tanya of Pennsylvania and Robert Halstead and his companion Tanya of New York; his sisters-in-law, Dawn Halstead of New York and Vera Halstead of Pennsylvania; several nieces and nephews, too many friends to list, and his godchildren, Isabella Hayes and Alessandra Utter. Horvath Sr., James* - Kerhonkson  
James Horvath, Sr. KERHONKSON- James Horvath, Sr., 82, of Wawarsing, passed away in the comfort of his daughters home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. James was born on Dec. 27, 1932 in Brownsville, Pa.; he was the son of Nick and Mary (Nagy) Horvath. Mr. Horvath served in U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He earned the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1955. James worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Wawarsing for many years. He enjoyed going on leisurely drives and visiting the local diners along the way. James is survived by his children, Crystal Bruce of Vt., Deborah Baul and her husband Howard of Kerhonkson, Richard Horvath and his wife Angel of Wawarsing and Kathleen Horvath of Tillson; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, James Horvath Jr.; his brothers, Nick, Joe, Pete, John, Paul, George, Robert and Frank; and his sisters, Mary, Margaret and Elizabeth. Cremation will be private. Kershaw, Robert M.* - Hurley  
Robert M. Kershaw HURLEY - Robert M. Kershaw, 64, of Hurley Avenue died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born July 7, 1950 in New Hartford, Conn., he was the son of late Robert H. and Marion (Byrne) Kershaw. For 40 years, Robert was employed as a 911 dispatcher for Ulster County 911. Formerly he was a disc jockey for WKNY. He was a member of the Hurley Fire Department, a former fire commissioner, and loved cars and computers. Surviving is his wife, Judith A. (Trowbridge) Kershaw; his sister, Mary K. (nee Kershaw) Polhemus and her husband Mike; his nephews, William R. Moxham, Sean J. Moxham; his great- nephews, William Moxham, Jr. Christopher Moxham and Ryan Moxham; great-great-nephew, Christopher F. Moxham; his sister-in-law, Cindy Murphy. Three nieces and his canine companion Max also survive. Cremation arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Kocis, Carol E.* - Saugerties  
Carol E. Kocis SAUGERTIES - Carol E. Kocis, 73, of Rte. 32 died Saturday, May 16, 2015 in the company of her loving family. Born Sept. 16, 1941 in Manhattan she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret Landis. An area resident for many years, she was employed for over 41 years as a Registered Nurse, C.P.A.N at the Benedictine and Kingston Hospitals as well as the Ulster County Hospice. An accomplished fiber artist, Carol was an avid quilter and spinner who also volunteered at local organizations and fairs providing related education to the public. She belonged to the Wiltwyck Quilters Guild, South Mt. Quilters, Piece Makers of Cairo, Q.U.I.L.T. Inc. of Delmar, and several knitting groups. In 2009, she was inducted into the Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame. She also was a former costume designer for the County Players Playhouse in Wappinger Falls, N.Y. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Joseph S. Kocis, III with whom she recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary; her daughter, Peggy and her husband John; her son, John and his wife Lynn; her son Steven; and her sister Toni Leamon. Six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Her funeral procession will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at the Seamon-WilseyFuneral Home, Inc. on the corner of John & Lafayette Streets, Saugerties thence to Sacred Heart RC Church in Palenville where at 11 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered.
