Elizabeth A. ‘Betsy’ Holcomb GREENWICH, N.Y. - Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Holcomb, 92, passed away Sunday Jan. 26, 2014 at her home surrounded by family and her favorite things. Born in Worcester, Mass. on Dec. 18, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Anne (Sherwin) Van Schuyler. In 1944, she graduated from Homeopathic Hospital of Rhode Island School of Nursing as a registered nurse. After a long nursing career in N.Y.C., Kingston and Poughkeepsie areas, Betsy travelled extensively and volunteered at numerous charities and community service agencies, most recently at “FAMILY of Woodstock” crisis center in Kingston. In her later years Betsy would often comment how lucky she was to have “been everywhere and done everything” she ever wanted to do. Betsy had a free and generous spirit, loved her family, animals, and old movies and took loving care of her mother for many years before her passing. Besides her parents, Betsy was predeceased by her two husbands, Robert S. Swope and Frederic W. Holcomb Jr. MD Left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Linda Anne (Swope) Maple of Chico, Calif., Nancy Cease and her partner Thomas Cutten of Kingston, Mara Holcomb, and her husband Jon C. Scott of Greenwich and Indian Lake, grandchildren, Timothy Maple, Sean Maple, Tao Stadler and wife Nikki, Michael Levesque, Daniel Cease, and Laurie Cease, four great-grandchildren, a brother, Philip Van Schuyler and wife Janice of Boise Idaho, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
