Helen Young

SAUGERTIES- Helen M. Young, formerly of Pine Street, Saugerties, passed away on Monday, March 25, 2013 at the Thompson House Nursing Home in Rhinebeck with her family by her side. Helen was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Clayton, NY to Oscar and Margaret LaRue. She had five siblings. The family later moved to Plainfield N.J. where Helen attended school and worked as an operator for Bell Telephone. She married Charles Hummel in 1940 and they raised two daughters, Patricia and Sharon. Helen was a loving wife and mother and had a positive and cheerful outlook. She worked as a salesperson in Bambergers, was a girl scout leader, and a religious education instructor at St Bernards RC Church in Plainfield. Her husband, Charles, died in 1980. In 1985 she married Henry C. Young. They moved to Saugerties in 1991. She was a parishioner of St John the Evangelist RC Church in Centerville. Helen was predeceased by her parents, brothers Clarence and Russell, and sisters, May Seiz, Blanche Schwartz, and Doris Bumback, husbands Charles Hummel and Henry Young. She is survived by daughters, Patricia Wood and her husband, Roy of Saugerties and Sharon Lovich and her husband, Robert of Piscataway N.J., and a dear friend, Norman Nitschke of Saugerties. six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren also survive. Her Funeral Service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. Of John and Lafayette Streets in Saugerties. Friends will be received Saturday from 1 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saugerties food pantry or the Alzheimer Assoc.
