SAUGERTIES- Raymond L. Maday, 84, of Stevens Court died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 29, 1929 in Nanticoke, Pa. he was the son of the late Louis and Bertha Kamowski Maday.
He was a 1946 graduate of Lodi High School in Lodi, N.J. Ray was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy
having served during the Korean War
aboard the U.S.S. Beatty.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Navy he earned his Degree in Industrial Engineering from Fairleigh-Dickinson University in 1957. He relocated to Saugerties, N.Y. where he began a 30 year career at IBM.
Very active in the community he dedicated himself to the youth of Saugerties for over 25 years as a coach in the CYO Basketball League, the Biddy Basketball Program, the Saugerties Little League and the Saugerties Babe Ruth League. He was a former Little League President and Secretary/Treasurer of the Saugerties Babe Ruth League. In 2001 he was honored by the Saugerties Babe Ruth League with "The Daniel Erceg Memorial Honor Plague" at the Teddy W. Lorenz Memorial Field.
He was a life member of the Saugerties Knights of Columbus Council #4536, the IBM Quarter Century Club, and formerly served as an usher at St. Mary of the Snow R.C. Church. An avid golfer he was a member of Rip Van Winkle Country Club. This past year he was honored at the Delisio Memorial Golf Tournament, to benefit the Special Olympics
, at Woodstock Golf Course for his 30 years of participation. He was a former board member of the Glasco Water/Sewer District and served as a Board of Election Inspector.
A dedicated family man, Ray treasured his time spent with family and friends especially at Babcock Lake.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Adele O'Keefe, one daughter: Deborah and her husband Dean Palen of Stone Ridge, two Sons: Barry D. and his wife Cheryl Rockwood of Schenectady and Raymond J. and his wife Jennifer Maday of Hurley. One brother: Louis Maday, and his wife Judith of River Vale, N.J. and one Sister: Mary Maday Vozeh of Whiting, N.J. An Uncle, Dennis Kamowski and his wife Theresa of Nanticoke, Pa. A sisteri-in-law Anna Farrell of Eatontown, N.J. and a brother in-law John O'Keefe and his wife Ellen of Sarasota, Fla. Two granddaughters: Kelly and Colleen Maday along with several nieces,nephews and cousins survive.
He was predeceased by two sisters: Sylvia Hastings and Bernardine Grant.
His Funeral Procession will form 10 a.m. Thursday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John & Lafayette Sts. Thence to St. Mary of the Snow where at 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Friends will be received Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Internment with military honors by the Saugerties American Legion Post #72 will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Expressions of condolence may be shared with the family at SeamonWilseyFuneralHome.com
