Robert Boyd

Robert L. Boyd ORLANDO, FLA.-Robert L. Boyd, 86, passed away at his home in Orlando on Monday, May 20, 2013 with his friends and loving caregivers, Bill and Peg Baldinger at his bedside. Bob was born in Walton, N.Y. on April 13, 1927, a son of the late A. Lavelle and Freda (Brown) Boyd. Following graduation from high school, Bob attended mortuary school in Syracuse, N.Y. He then served his funeral director's apprenticeship in Westchester County, where he later earned his license to practice at the age of 21. He remained with that firm for seven years, and then served another seven years with a funeral firm in Schenectady, N.Y. as a funeral home manager. In 1959, after his mother's tragic death in an auto accident, he moved to Woodstock, with his grandmother and his father. It was in Woodstock that he purchased the well-known Lasher Funeral Home. While there, Bob cared for his grandmother, Margaret Brown, until she passed at 99, and his father until he passed at 88. As a funeral director, Bob served many generations of area families. He sold the firm and retired in 2005. Also while at Lasher's, he belonged to the Garden Club, and won many awards for his care of the funeral home property and buildings. He was a member of the Woodstock Reformed Church, where he served as Deacon for several years. He was a civil war enthusiast and proud of his great grandfather's discharge papers, which he had framed and kept. Bob is survived by one brother, Douglas Boyd, nieces Cindy Ammon and her husband Dennis, Christine Wildey and her husband Skeet, and nephew Wayne Boyd and his wife Cathy, all of Walton, N.Y. Several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. In addition to his parents and grandmother, he is also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Alberta “Bert” Boyd. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, N.Y. The funeral service will be held 12 noon, Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the family plot at Walton Cemetery, Walton, N.Y. Friends will be received at the funeral home prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
