Verna Carolyn Ellman RHINEBECK - Verna Carolyn Ellman died of natural causes at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, on Jan. 13, 2014, just 4 weeks before her 100th birthday. Originally from Yardville, N.J., she spent most of her adult life living on Long Island before moving to the Hudson Valley in 1996. Verna was married to Maximillian J.B. Welker, then to Paul Ellman, both of whom served in the U.S. Army. Verna traveled to Europe several times as well as to Australia and took several cruises around the Caribbean in her younger years. She was gentle, caring, and well-loved, and is survived by a son, Max Welker, three granddaughters, Grace, Christine, and Linnea Welker, and a great-granddaughter, Ava Bashew. Verna is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, N.J., with her parents, Raymond and Anna Rambo. Verna will be included in a memorial service at Ferncliff on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 10:30 a.m. To sign the online register please visit dapsonchestney.com.
