Walter Mandic DUNNELLON, FLORIDA- Walter Mandic, age 87, of Dunnellon, Fla. passed away on Dec. 31st, 2012. He was born to the Late Peter and Elizabeth Merjenovic Mandic in East Conemaugh, Pa. He was predeceased by his brother Ross Mandic. A devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by Joanne Almy Mandic. He was the loving father of four daughters, Debra Broderick (John) of Binghamton, Linda Mandic-O'Sullivan (John) of Tillson, Donna Younghans (John) of Raleigh, NC and Joanne Mandic (Rocky) of Ocala, FL. He was a proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren, John (Kaitlyn), Liam, Rebecca, Riley, Matthew, Nyasha, Madison, Logan, Colin, Elliot, Angus, Hannah and Christina as well as three great –grandchildren, John, Tyler and Zachary. A proud veteran of World War II, Walter served in the European Theater of operations as an infantry soldier in the US Army. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with B.S. in Engineering in 1950. He raised his family in Tillson and was an active member of St. Peter's Parish in Rosendale. Walter was employed with IBM for 32 years as an industrial engineer before retiring to Florida in 1990. He then became actively involved in the Catholic Community of St. John the Baptist Parish and achieved the third degree in the Knights of Columbus. Walter's passion for life, knowledge, food, faith, adventure, tinkering, bargain hunting and stimulating conversation will live on in all those whose lives he touched. Walter's family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Dunnellon, FL . Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
