Aleck Freed KINGSTON- Aleck Freed, husband of the late Miriam Gordon Freed, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Golden Hill Health Care Center, Kingston. Aleck was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on July 2, 1911. After moving with his family to Boston, Mass., Aleck went to Boston Latin School, graduating near the top of his class in 1929. While in school, he delivered newspapers and won a scholarship sponsored by the Boston Newsboys Protective Union to attend Harvard University. In 1950, he began working as an accountant for the State of Connecticut until retirement in June, 1983. A resident of Kingston since 2010, Aleck was predeceased by his father, Henry, who died in 1969 at age 86; his mother, Rebecca, who died in 1983 at age 101; his three brothers: Morris, Leon, and Samuel; and two sisters, Molly Liberman and Sophie Levine. He leaves two children, a daughter, Susan of Kingston; a son, Gordon Freed of Amherst, Mass.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. The funeral was held on Friday, Oct. 4 in Preston, Conn. Simpson Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave. was honored to handle the funeral arrangements.
