WOODSTOCK-Donald R. Baker, 74, formerly of Saugerties, died June 12, 2013 at the Kingston Hospital.
Born May 9, 1939 in Kingston he was the son of the late Orlando and Claire Baker.
A lifetime area resident, he served in the U.S. Navy. Don was employed at Vidi Comm of Saugerties from 1960-1981. He was a part time member of the town of Saugerties Police Department and owned and operated Don Baker and Sons Seal Coating. He worked for the N.Y.C. Corrections Department at the Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch for 18 years retiring in 2001. After retiring from the State he joined his wife in the ownership and operation of Judy's Florist in Saugerties. Active in the community he was custodian of the election machines in the town of Saugerties for over 47 years and was caretaker of the grounds at St. John the Evangelist Church in Centerville. He was a member of Ulster Lodge #193 F & AM for over 40 years where he served as Master of the Lodge for two terms in 1982 and 2011. He was currently serving as Chaplain of the Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, the former Judith "Judy" Russell, with whom he recently celebrated their 51st anniversary. Three daughters Bonnie and her husband William Kirchner of Saugerties, Brenda and her husband Clark Bartholemew of Kerhonkson and Tammy and her husband Scott Wilson of Saugerties; one son Donald and his wife Jeannie Baker of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters Ann Decker of Schnectady and Eleanor and her husband Nick Dittmar of Rosendale; one brother Sterling and his wife Eileen Baker of Schenectady; his sister-in-law Patsy Walter and beloved cousin Toots. 10 Grandchildren Zachery, Jesse, Sara Jo, Billy, Katelyn, Samantha, Abigail, Rebecca, Holden and Adam; three great-grandchildren Karic, Remey and Aiden and several beloved nieces and nephews also survive.
He was predeceased by a brother John Baker and his twin sister Donna Light.
His Funeral Procession will form 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Seamon-Wisley Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John & Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Thence to the Saugerties Reformed Church where at 10 a.m. his funeral service will be conducted. Interment will follow in the Wiltwyck Cemetery. Friends will be received Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Kingston Dialysis Center.
