Eugene Winter KINGSTON- Eugene ‘Gene' Winter, 84, loving brother, uncle, and great-uncle returned to Heaven on Sunday, May 5, 2013 after a courageous battle against Parkinson's disease. He was born on April 19, 1929 in Kingston, to Augustus and Gertrude (Huber) Winter. He was a life-long resident of 99 Foxhall Avenue, Kingston before he resided at Golden Hill Health Care Center. Gene's life centered around his faith and devotion to St. Peter. He was a life-long parishioner of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. He entered the Army after graduating from Kingston High School serving in The Korean War. He was the Post Commander of Joyce Schirick Post 1386 VFW from 1966 to 1967. He worked as a lithographer for Western Printing in Poughkeepsie, for 35 years and later worked for I.B.M. in Kingston until his retirement. Gene relished the simple joys of living; gardening, cooking, painting, and photography. In his younger years, he was a bowler, skier, enjoyed playing the accordion and will be remembered as a stage hand in The Saint Peter's Minstrel Shows. His greatest source of pride however, was in his family and extended family. He was well known in Kingston and touched the hearts of everyone he met. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by all. Gene is survived by his sister, Gertrude (Winter) Lund of Texas. He will be deeply missed by his nieces who reside locally: Jean Winter of Kingston, Janet Winter and her companion Francis Pipczynski of Woodstock; his nephews, Paul Winter and his wife Debbie of Lake George, and Mark Lund and his wife JoMary of Saugerties; as well as many out of state nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Gene is predeceased by a brother, Vincent A. Winter and his wife Mabel (Hoehl) Winter; a brother, Joseph Winter and his wife Angelina (Corrado) Winter; and a brother-in-law, Allen Lund. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue Kingston. www.jvleahyfh.com Visiting hours will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Kingston. Burial with military honors will be immediately following at St. Peter's Cemetery.
