Obituary Condolences

Edward William Carey RHINEBECK - Edward William Carey, 82, a longtime resident of the Town of Clinton, passed away on July 19, 2013 at the Baptist Home at Brookmeade in Rhinebeck. He was born on June 27, 1931 in Northampton, Mass., the son of the late Daniel C. and Dorothy (Graham) Carey. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. On Sept. 27, 1952 he married Barbara Demersky at the Holy Name Church in Springfield Mass. In addition to his loving wife Barbara, he will be dearly missed by his children, John Carey and his wife Cindy, of Flowery Branch, Ga.; Stephen Carey and his partner Lisamarie White of Staatsburg; Catherine Carey-McLane and her husband Ken of Commerce City, Colo.; and Daniel Carey and his partner Janet Valle of Mahopac, N.Y.; five grandchildren & four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, a sister Jacqueline Engel and husband Jim of North Hampton, Mass.; and two brothers, Timothy Carey and wife Sandra of Trumbull, Conn. and Robert Carey and wife FloraAnn of Batesville, Ark. and brother-in-law, William Mann of Springfield, Mass. He was predeceased by two sisters, Joan Mann and Patricia Martens and a brother, Richard Carey. Mr. Carey was an engineer with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY for 32 years until his retirement in 1987. He also sold real estate, worked for the town of Clinton's assessor's office and was a Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Calling hours will be held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday July 24, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Church, Rhinebeck. Interment will follow in the Wurtemburg cemetery, Rhinebeck.
