CAMARILLO, CALIF.- Francis Michael "Mike" Koenig, 71, of Camarillo, Calif., formerly of Kingston, died Jan. 3, 2014 in Camarillo, Calif.
Born in Kingston on June 28, 1942 he was a son of the late Francis and Anne Rich Koenig.
He was a 1960 graduate Kingston High School and a 1964 graduate of Marist College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. Mike was a supervisor in child care at St. Cabrini Home, West Park, N.Y., and Saint Agatha Group Home and was employed at Astor Home for Children until his retirement. In recent years, he was President of the Resident Council Assisted Living at Emeritus of Camarillo, Calif. Mike was a history enthusiast who was particularly passionate about military history. He performed the roll of Santa Claus for Astor home, Hudson Valley Mall and other local children's charities. He enjoyed gardening, was an enthusiastic N.Y. Mets and Seattle Seahawks fan and was a founding member of the Slippery Spiders.
Francis is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Koenig Mitani and her husband Martin of Woodland Hills, Calif., Shannon Koenig of Ventura, Calif., and her fiancé Matthew Weisbart, David Koenig of Ventura, Calif. and Robert Koenig and his fiancé Rebecca Wells of Kingston; and three siblings, Sister Mary Isaac Jogues Koenig, S.U. (Ellen Koenig) of N.C., Paul Koenig of Kingston, Jane Regnier and her husband Peter of Aurora, Ill. One grandson, Liam and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m.
A Memorial Mass will celebrated on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Linwood Spiritual Center, 50 Linwood Rd. Rhinebeck.
Interment will be private.
