John P. McMichael ULSTER PARK - - John P. McMichael of Buzdygan Court died Monday, April 29, 2013 at HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus. He was born 72 years ago in Oak Park, Ill. the son of the late Robert and Loretta Pezold McMichael. Mr. McMichael earned his master's degree in mathematics at the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana. John was employed as a Mathematician-Computer Program for IBM, Kingston. He retired in 1993 necessitated by his need for a lung transplant which he received at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, N.Y.C. in Oct. 1999. In John's healthy years he skied, hiked and played basketball, football and soccer. He remained an avid soccer and Illini basketball fan to his end. He was President of the Kingston Area Soccer League and a member of the Town of Esopus Planning Board for many years. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation from its early days in Kingston. John was a life-long learner who continued taking college courses after retirement. He was a well-read deep thinker who enjoyed reciting Robbie Burns poetry with a thick Scot's brogue and a twinkle in his eye. Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Barbara Phelps McMichael, his son David (Jennifer) of Goldens Bridge, N.Y. and daughter Laura McMichael Cady (Conrad) of Castro Valley, Calif., stepson Scot McRae (Dorothy) of High Falls, sister Margaret Mossbarger of Brevard, N.C. and seven grandchildren whom he loved deeply. Cremation under the direction of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 326 Albany Ave., Kingston was private. A “Celebration of John” service will be conducted on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Catskills, Sawkill Rd., Kingston.
