Louis P. Conti Obituary
Louis P. Conti HURLEY- Louis P. Conti (Lou), of Hurley, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Albany VA Hospital Hospice Unit on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2013. Lou was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 26, 1929 to the late Peter and Florence Conti. He graduated from St. John’s University and served on the General Staff, U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division in the European Theater between 1951 and 1953. Upon returning stateside, he worked as an accountant before establishing his own insurance agency and accounting business in Kingston, where he worked until his retirement. Lou’s numerous civic service positions included, President of the Hurley Little League, Manager of Babe Ruth of Kingston, Committee Man Hurley Boy Scouts, Auditor of Kingston Consolidated School District and Board Member of the United Way. He was an active member of the Ulster County Democratic Committee, the American Legion Post 150, the VFW, Lion’s Club and the Elks Club. He was a communicant at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Kingston. Lou was an avid gardener, coin collector and enjoyed dancing when not cruising in the Caribbean. Lou is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 60 years, Catherine; a brother, Steve (Barbara) of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; daughter, Joan Lonergan (Jim) of Woodstock; sons, Peter (Heidi) of Rochester, Ronald (Elvira) of Latham, and Richard of Woodstock. He was very proud of his nine grandchildren, Beth Ann, Eric (Aya), Arielle, Ryan, Kevin, Matthew Louis, Aubrey, Jett, and Carma. He leaves behind a large family in California and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to the extraordinary staff of the Kingston Hospital Intensive Care and Isolation units and the outstanding hospice staff at the Albany VA Hospital. Lou will be laid to rest in the Gerald BH Solomon National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
