Stanley R. O'Dell, Sr. WINGDALE- Stanley R. O'Dell, Sr. Lifelong resident of Wingdale, with his second home in Saugerties, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Hospital. Born on Oct. 10, 1925 in Dover Plains, he was the son of the late Lillian Brian O'Dell. After graduating from Dover Plains High School in 1943, he entered the US Navy during World War II and served aboard the CVL-25 USS Cowpens, Independence Class Aircraft Carrier. After training and assignment to the Cowpens, Aviation Radioman and Gunner O'Dell, flew in Dive Bombers in Squadron 197 in the Pacific. He fought throughout the Philippines in many battles. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Theatre and World War II Victory Medals. He was employed 37 years with Hunts Country Furniture in Wingdale. He was a member for over 35 years of the Wingdale Post #1949 American Legion. At his second home in Saugerties, he was a beloved member of the Saugerties Elks Lodge #2574. He loved animals, fishing and enjoying time with his friends. He was always the life of the party ! Survivors include his son, Stanley R. O'Dell Jr and Debbie Malgieri of Saugerties and son Scott O'Dell and his wife Jennifer, grandsons Ryan and Colin of Naples, Fla. one Brother: Thomas of Debary, Fla. two Sisters: Lillian Moore of Athens and Frances Ayotte of Morrisonville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his adopted family, Brett, Joann, Connor and Aidan Fusco of Wingdale. His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Wingdale Methodist Church. Visiting hours will be held Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor.
