William P. Margopoulos RHINEBECK- William P. Margopoulos, 86, passed away Thursday,April 24, 2014, at Ferncliff Nursing Home. Born Sept. 25, 1927 in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Peter and Evelyn Arendt Margopoulos and had resided in Woodstock since 1964 until moving to Arden Ridge in Rhinebeck in 2008. Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 until 1947 and after being discharged, he entered University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he earned a Bachelor’s and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at IBM over 30 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a former active member of Woodstock Reformed Church, and enjoyed traveling, having seen the lower 48. He was a volunteer, taking friends and neighbors to various appointments. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret “Mickey” A. Barnecut Margopoulos on Oct. 19, 2004; three sons, Brad, Barry and Matt Margopoulos; and his siblings, Nicholas, Theodore, Helen Pfeiffer and Patricia Margopoulos . Surviving are his son, Bruce Margoloulos of Kingston; two daughters, Marla Britting of Kingston and Marlee Margulies of Chapel Hill, N.C.; his sister, Dorothy Walling of Florida; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Private services were held under the direction of Lasher Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. Contributions to Hospice, Inc., 34 Broadway, Kingston, 12401, would be appreciated.
