Alma M. Helsmoortel SAUGERTIES- Alma M. Helsmoortel, 98, of Washington Ave. died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home. Born April 2, 1915 in Saugerties, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Lezette Krom. A lifetime area resident she served as a Lunch Monitor at the Saugerties Senior High School for many years where she made many life long friends with the students. Active in the betterment of the Saugerties Community she was a member of the Seamon Park Board, the Garden Club, the Mum Festival Committee, the Sawyer Homemakers, American Legion Auxillary, and was a lifetime member of the Saugerties United Methodist Church. Predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1988, they celebrated 43 years of Marriage together. Survivors include two sons, Gregory L. and his wife, Thomasine Helsmoortel and Keith Helsmoortel; two grandsons, Christopher Roy and Scott Douglas Helsmoortel all of Saugerties. She was predeceased by a sister, Audrey VanKleeck, and a brother, Douglas Krom. Her Funeral Procession will form 9:15 a.m. Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home thence to the Saugerties United Methodist Church where at 10 a.m. her Funeral Service will be conducted. Friends will be received Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Family suggests donations in her memorybe made to the Saugerties United Methodist Church.
