She was born in Ithaca on Aug. 11, 1927 and was the daughter of Charles L. and Ida G. Allen. She was a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and worked for several years as a home economics teacher.
On July 1, 1951 she married John C. Kaufman of Saugerties. Together they operated a dairy farm on Hurley Mountain Road for over 20 years.
While raising their seven children, she was a dedicated 4-H leader and shared her considerable talents in cooking and sewing with countless young people. As their children grew older she worked for the former Hutton Nursing Home, the Convent of the Sisters of St. Ursula, and for many years most recently was a beloved food server at the Zena School in West Hurley. Anna served for many years as a volunteer for Ulster County Habitat for Humanity and the Hurley Heritage Society. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, and cooking.
She was devoted to family; her greatest joy was to be surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, of 62 years, died on the same day.
Survivors include three sons and four daughters, Richard C. Kaufman (Paige) of Mendon, Vt., Andrew P. Kaufman (Pru) of Lake Worth, Fla., Peter W. Kaufman (Ronnie) of Saugerties, Jennie E. MacDonald (Craig) of Ballston Lake, Lucy C. Kaufman (Rod) of Kingston, Regina R. Kaufman (Margaret) of Easthampton, Mass., and Eva L. Jones (Steven) of Niskayuna.
Her legacy also includes 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Harriet Borner (Al) of Staatsburg, and her brother, Ralph Allen (Verna) of Port Ewen. She was predeceased by her sister, Jane Wirt, and her brother Richard C. Allen.
