Anthony L. "Tony" Tantillo NEW PALTZ - Anthony L. "Tony" Tantillo, age 61, of New Paltz, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011 at Kingston Hospital. He was born on May 10, 1949 in Poughkeepsie. He was the son of Joseph and Emma (Moriello) Tantillo. He married Fawn Hornbeck on Dec. 30, 1978 at New Prospect Church, Pine Bush. He was the proprietor of Sunset Sporting Goods in New Paltz for over 35 years. Tony was the Chairman of the New Paltz Conservative Committee. He was a member of the Hidden Harbor Yacht Club, Port Ewen, former member of the Lloyd Rod and Gun Club and the New Paltz Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Ulster County Trappers Association and a Lifetime Member of the NRA. He was a member of the West Point Company of Military Historians. He served on various boards and councils including the Hudson River Estuary Management Advisory Council. He wrote numerous articles about the Hudson River which appeared in various magazines and periodicals. Tony received numerous awards including The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Federated Sportsmen's Clubs of Ulster County, The Lou Del Santo Hudson River Stewardship Award from the Coastal Conservation Association and he was recognized for his support of the Catskill Region Friends of the NRA. He was honored as the Ulster County Sportsman of the Year in 2004 and the Ulster County Conservative of the Year in 2010. He is survived by his wife, Fawn Tantillo, daughter Christina and her husband, Mike Saylor of New Paltz, and son, Salvatore V. Tantillo of New Paltz, brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Corliss Tantillo of Nassau, brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Tantillo and Maura Shaw-Tantillo of Rosendale, granddaughter, Trisha Saylor of New Paltz, and brother in spirit, Tom Smith of Tillson. Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. The funeral will be Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
