Barry Kappel SHOKAN - On Dec. 10, 2013 Barry Kappel passed away peacefully in his home at 15 Ridge Road, with his soul-mate and loving wife, Christine, and devoted daughter, Denise, and her husband, John Van Etten, at his side. Barry’s pride and joy and greatest delight were his granddaughters, Shelby and Haley. Barry would often reflect on how fortunate he was to have had such a great life. He especially enjoyed the company of friends and family. Barry was a kind and generous man that touched so many lives, most of whom became dear friends. Barry’s love of life and positive attitude left an indelible mark on all who met him. Barry and Christine celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year. Together they built their automobile repair business, the “Old Volks Home”, also known as B & C Enterprises, on Ridge Road. He loved fixing cars, was a well-accomplished craftsman, a true “Jack-of-all-trades” and master of most! He enjoyed boating, camping, fishing and hunting. He loved old cars and enjoyed “Bike Week” in Daytona Beach, Florida. In the near future, we plan to have a gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate donations be made to Hudson Valley Hospice. They have been incredible in caring for all of us at a very difficult time. hvhospice.org Arrangements are under the guidance of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home.
