MARBLE, N.C. - Catherine Elizabeth McDonnell-Gilbane of Marble, N.C. formally of Saugerties, passed away, at the age of 87 on Saturday, Jan. 4th, 2014 at her residence. Born in Scotland on Oct. 21, 1927, Catherine was the daughter of the Late James & Isabel Mc Keown -McDonnell and was the youngest of five children. Catherine was a parishioner of the St. William Catholic Church in Murphy, N.C.
After moving from Saugerties to Manchester, Conn. in 1979, Catherine worked at the Manor Nursing Home in Manchester, Conn. as a LPN before moving to Murphy, N.C. Catherine is survived by her husband Peter Gilbane of 63 years, and was married on Aug. 5, 1950. Three sons, James Gilbane and his wife Cynthia of West Haven, Conn. Peter Gilbane, Jr., and his wife Denise of Marble, N.C. and Patrick Gilbane and his wife Karen of Saugerties. In Addition, Catherine is survived by ten Grandchildren; Darrick & Blair (Brandi) Haines of Murphy, N.C., and Trevor Haines of Rosendale. Lisa Gilbane-Smith (Richard) & James Gilbane (Meghan) of Calif., Emily Gilbane- Annotone (Edward) of West Haven, Conn. Erin Gilbane-Long (Charles), of Marble, N.C. & Peter J. Gilbane (Samantha) of Kathleen, Ga. Patrick (PJ) and Sean Gilbane of Saugerties, 14 Great- Grandchildren and several Nieces and Nephews.
Catherine was predeceased by her two daughters Catherine Gilbane & Eileen Gilbane-Haines and three sisters; Isabel Roberson, Bridgette Mc Keown, Agnes Reed, one brother Patrick Mc Donnell and a Sister-In-Law Eileen Gilbane-Lowery.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place at St. Williams Church in Murphy, N.C. Cremation was under direction of the Townson-Rose Funeral Home, Murphy, N.C. A Memorial Service and Interment at Blue Mountain Cemetery will take place at a later date to be announced and is under the direction of the Seamon–Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Corner of John and Lafayette Sts.
