Eugene L. ‘Bert' Camisa PORT EWEN- Eugene L. “Bert” Camisa, 75, of The Hills, Port Ewen died Sunday morning, Dec. 9, 2012 at Kingston Hospital. Bert was born in Brooklyn on April 8, 1937, a son of the late Louis and Rose (Toscani) Camisa. A member of the Army National Guard, he loved to travel Europe, and visit Italy. He enjoyed cooking, anything about history, reading, and exotic cars, being a former owner of a Ferrari sports car. Most of all, he was an exceptionally talented artist and chef. Bert's career began as a graphic artist and owner of Agency Art Associates of New York, a graphic arts firm with subsidiaries in New York, Chicago and Connecticut. During this career, he was known to spend a lot of time at the The Press Box, 47th and Lexington, N.Y.C. Then in the late eighties and for several years, he co-owned the Villa Camisa Restaurant, and owned Cafe Montana, both in located in Saugerties. In 1996, he rediscovered his love for oil painting, creating canvases of beautiful outdoor landscapes and architecture. Most recently and for more than ten years until his sudden illness, he was employed as kitchen staff for the Beekman Arms, Rhinebeck. Bert is survived by three daughters, Maria Camisa Miller, and Antonia Remsen and her husband John all of Port Ewen, and Martha Williams of New Jersey; one sister Madeline Morse of New Jersey, and Bert's former wife and lifelong friend Claire Camisa of Port Ewen. Bert is also survived by his three grandsons who he so cherished, Alex Miller, Kole Remsen and Cross Remsen all of Port Ewen. It was with regret that while he and his family visited Paris, they “never made it to the Eiffel Tower”. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park. The Camisa family will welcome friends at the funeral home during a Time of Remembrance and display of his paintings on Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m. Cremation was held at Wiltwyck Crematory.
