Hilda Ann Leonard Obituary
Hilda Ann Leonard STAATSBURG- Hilda Ann Leonard, 81, of Staatsburg, formerly of Wrentham Street, died Tuesday July 24, 2012, at Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Born June 25, 1931 in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Reba (VanKleeck) Shurter. Hilda was a graduate of Kingston High School and was a homemaker while her husband was a career man in the U.S. Army. This gave her the opportunity to travel, as they were stationed in Alaska, Ala., N.C., and Mass. Hilda loved music, reading, and nature. When she was younger, she was an active member of the Old Dutch Church in Kingston. She loved the holidays (especially Christmas) and always made them magical. She could bake anything from scratch, and it was the best! Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Ness and Connie Happeny, both of Stone Ridge; her grandson Darius Lisman and his wife Andrea, great-grandchildren, Christian and Hailey; as well as cousins, Patti Cox, Susan Lloyd, Linda VanKleeck Buzzanco, Janet VanKleeck, and Eloise VanKleeck Caparn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Loretta VanAken and Clara (Penny) Fairbanks; and her niece, Sally Utter. Hilda's passing will leave a void in the hearts and lives of her daughters. Cremation and memorial arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue. www.jvleahyfh.com A memorial service will be held Saturday 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Cremation took place at Wiltwyck Crematory. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to the Perfect Pets Rescue, 1152 Biltmoe Drive, Atlanta, G.A. 30329.
