Joan Marie Cashin HOLMES BEACH FLA. - Joan Marie Cashin, of Holmes Beach, Fla. and Mashpee, Mass., passed away peacefully at home, with loving family present on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013. Joan was born on July 15, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY to Alfred and Joan Palmer. She grew up in Pleasant Valley, and attended Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie and Mount Saint Mary's in Newburgh. Joan graduated from Mount St. Aloysius College in Pa. Joan was a Licensed Practical Nurse [LPN], and a Sign Language Interpreter, having schooled at NYU and Gallaudet University, Washington D.C. Beloved Wife of Frank S. Cashin, loving Mother of Dr. Christopher Simek and wife Teresa of Lakeland Fla., Laurie Wegryn and husband Mark of Shrewsbury Mass., Robert Simek and wife Donna of Dover, Mass., John Simek and wife Susan of Kingston and step-son Mark Cashin and wife Marylyn, of Cary, N.C. and 10 grandchildren. Special loving thanks to Miss Chantal Joseph and Mrs. Patrice Blackwood for their generous support. Joan's passion was working with the deaf children, assisting them through elementary school, high school and college. Joan's favorite hobbies were making Nantucket baskets, and collecting antiques. She and Frank had an antique business for many years in Rhinebeck, called the “Corner Cupboard”. Relatives and friends respectively are invited to attend services at the Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St. Falmouth Ma. 02540, with visiting hours on Friday, Feb. 15th, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., followed by a Funeral Mass on Saturday, Feb. 16th 2013, 10 a.m., at St. Anthony's Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway East Falmouth, Mass. 02536.
