John T. Schloemer MANNSVILLE- John T. Schloemer, 55, Van Wormer Rd., Mannsville, passed away Tuesday morning, April 16, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Mannsville United Methodist Church, Lorraine St., Mannsville with Rev. Mary Drake officiating. Calling hours are Friday, April 19, 2013 from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Graveside services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 23rd, at the Maplewood Cemetery, Mannsville. Memorial donations may be made to the Mannsville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 380, Mannsville, N.Y., 13661 or to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, N.Y., 13601. John was born in Rhinebeck, a son of the late William Schloemer and Joan Halliday Schloemer. He graduated from Red Hook Central School in 1977 and attended Columbia Greene Community College for one year. John began his career with Contel Phone Co. in the Red Hook / Rhinebeck area as an installer in 1981. While living in Red Hook, John owned and operated a tree company called ‘Trees are a Breeze.' He transferred to Northern N.Y. with Contel in 1988, working with the company through the changes from Contel, to GTE, to Citizens and lastly Frontier where he currently held the position of technical supervisor. John married Jill Jenkins, Sept. 21, 1985 at the First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck. John was a member of the Mannsville United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee and was actively involved with the children, youth, photography and care of the church building, grounds and parsonage. John was an active member of the Red Hook Volunteer Fire Department while living there. He was a 10 year member of the Mannsville Village Board, the Mannsville Volunteer Fire Dept and the Ambulance Squad. He was a member of the Adams Rotary and So. Jeff Chamber, serving as co-organizer of the Christmas Parade for many years. John was a strong supporter and mentor to the youth in his community, serving as an assistant Cub Scout Master with Pack 37. John was very active with the Harold Dunn Soccer League (now Eastern Shore) and Mannsville T-Ball team. He volunteered for many years with the Tug Hill Tourathon. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, kayaking, and skiing. He loved woodworking. John cleared the wooded lot to build his log cabin home at its present location. John had a passion caring for and rehabilitating all animals, both domestic and wild. John is survived by his wife, Jill and their daughter, Ashleigh, both of Mannsville; his mother, Joan Schloemer, Red Hook; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Billy) and Wendy, Tivoli, and Richard and Lisa, Red Hook; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Robert Matthies, Indian Lake; two nieces, four nephews, two greatnephews; and his mother and father-in-law, Guy and Linda Jenkins, N.C.
