Nancy Lofaro Obituary

Nancy (Handy) Lofaro SAUGERTIES- Nancy (Handy) Lofaro died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at her home in Saugerties. She was born in New York City Dec. 11, 1938 to Stella "Jackie" (Hull) and Walter C. Handy Sr. They lived in Williston Park, N.Y. before moving to Guilderland Center, N.Y. in 1950. She is survived by her son Christopher and his wife Adrian Hood and their children Lucca Ray, Marlin (Marly) Leighton, and Sorella Samuel Lofaro; her daughter Juliet and son-in-law Robert Safuto and their daughters Mia Claire and Rosetta Dominique;, her son Gregory and his partner Suzanne Morris; her brother Walter C. Handy Jr. and wife Gina; her sister Dianne Ammerman; and brother Charles "Chuck" Handy, as well as fifteen nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Bearsville Theater, 291 Tinker Street (Route 212), Woodstock, N.Y. Donations in her name can be made to The American Cancer Society Relay For Life/Rhinebeck, 121 Executive Drive, New Windsor, N.Y. 12553 or Hospice Foundation Inc, 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. 12601.

I worked with Nancy at Benedictine. She was a dedicated nurse to all her patients, and an amazing loving person. I think of her often.I missed the gathering in Woodstock, as I was in the hospital.We shared many good times together.

I knew Nancy through the OR at Benedictine and kept in touch with her after her retirement. We've been trying to get together and have kept missing one another. I guess our e-mails kept us in touch. We need to take the time. It's now too late. I will miss her.
