Robert E. Owens Obituary
Robert E. Owens RHINEBECK- Robert E. Owens, 90, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 at his residence. Born Jan. 5, 1927 on Lynbrook, Long Island, he was the son of the late George E. and Hazel A. Frost Owens and had resided in Rhinebeck for many years. Robert was a civil engineer with the N.Y.S. Department of Transportation in Poughkeepsie for many years, until is retirement. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army as an anti-tank crewman, 1945-46. He built a canoe and a sailboat in his basement and also built and flew three ultralight airplanes. He was a ham radio operator and was a member of the U.S. ultralight association. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia Van De Bogart and his brother Donald A. Owens. He is survived by his nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held in the Spring in Woodstock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lasher Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock
