Ruth Anne Helen Pettinichi SAUGERTIES-Ruth Anne Helen Pettinichi, 72, of Hilltop Road died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Kingston Hospital after a sudden illness. Born April 21, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan she was the daughter of the late Martin William and Esther Elizabeth (Rehmus) Bernecker. A resident of the area for many years she was a graduate of Wheaton College in the State of Illinois earning a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and her Masters Degree in Administration from SUNY New Paltz. She taught in the Kingston Consolidated School District in the Bailey and MJM Middle Schools for over 35 years, retiring in 1997. She volunteered for 16 years and served on the Fundraising Committee for the Children's Home of Kingston, organizing the Annual Drum and Bugle Corps Competition at Dietz Stadium. Ruth was the Treasurer for more than 30 years for the Kingston Volunteer Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary. She was on the Board of Directors for the Pleshakov Music Center located in Hudson and Hunter, N.Y. Ruth owned and operated Maratsky's Jewelers in Hudson, New York for several years in the late 1990s, and was an active member of the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce. She was an accomplished piano player and her love of classical and religious music was a shining light in her life. Ruth played the trombone and sang in choir in high school, and continued her love of choral music by participating with the Wheaton College Women's chorus which toured nationally. While in Germany in the early 1960s she was asked to play the organ at a party at which President John F. Kennedy was present. Ruth went on to teach general and vocal music throughout her career. Her unending hospitality provided the best parties throughout the year including delicious food and a table setting fit for royalty. Our best memories are her Christmas and pool parties at their lovely home and for 27 years at their winter home in Ft. Meyers Beach, Fla. Her family and friends will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Anthony married 39 years, her daughter Lisa Ann and her husband Wiliam D. Middlebrook of Breckenridge, Colo., her son James J. of Saugerties and two grandchildren Kristina and Patrick Middlebrook. Her Funeral Service will be held 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Cor. Of John & Lafayette Streets. Friends will be received Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in her memory be made to the Children's Home of Kingston, 25 Grove Street, Kingston, NY 12401.
