Obituary Condolences

Virginia Shirley Sampsen OLIVEBRIDGE- Virginia Shirley Sampsen, 88, passed away Tuesday, Nov.13, 2012. Born Jan. 30, 1924 in Olivebridge, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Viva Jones Davis and was a lifelong resident of Olivebridge. Mrs. Sampsen was the Postmaster in Olivebridge for many years, before her retirement. She was a member of the Olivebridge United MethodistChurch, Olive Rebekah Lodge #470, Jolly Bridge Club, Olive Senior Citizens, Tongore Garden Club, the Olive Fire Auxillary, and a founding member of the Olive Rescue Squad. Shirley was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post in the town of Olive. She was an avid Yankees fan and bowler, enjoyed traveling and in addition to many cruises, she had been to all 50 states. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Arthur Sampsen, July 8, 2012; her sister, Mimi Mc Gloughlin; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Sampsen. Surviving are her daughter, Virginia S. Rossler of Rosendale; a son, Mark Sampsen of Berne; granddaughters, Stephanie Sampsen of Berne and Kim Neville of Austin, Texas; brother, Lester ‘Sonny' Davis of Olivebridge; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Monday 4 to 7 p.m. at Lasher Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Olivebridge United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Tongore Cemetery, Olivebridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Olivebridge United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1397, Olivebridge, N.Y., 12461. Queen Ulster Lodge 34 of Saugerties, will meet for ritualistic services for their departed sister, 4:30 p.m. Monday at Lasher Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock.
