Roy Bynum Keener FRANKLIN, N.C.- Roy Bynum Keener, age 78, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, March 29, 2013. He was born in Macon County, the son of the late Charles Randolph Keener and Pearl Miller Hedden. He was married to Shirley Allen Keener of Largo, Fla. He had worked in tunnel construction, and was a U. S. Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW and a member of Ellijay Missionary Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Sherri Fields of Denver, Colo., Sandra Keener of Kingston, and Stacie Nakai and her husband Steve, of Durango, Colo.; two sisters, Patricia Leinbach and husband Sam of Winchester, Va., and Polly McCoy and husband Mack of Franklin, N.C.; one brother, Charles Keener and wife Paulette of Augusta, Ga.; and three grandchildren, Emily Fields, Miles Nakai and Aja Nakai. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, G. D. Hedden; brother, Duane Hedden; and twin brother, Roland Keener. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Bryant Grant Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Potts officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Bell, Chris Bell, David White, Bob McCoy, John Cooper, James Keener, Steve Sellers, and Bobby Green. Franklin VFW Post #7339 and American Legion Post #108 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
