Santos ‘Sam' Marino KINGSTON-Santos “Sam” Marino, 78 of Third Avenue, Kingston died Wednesday April 17, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie surrounded by his loving family. Born February 9, 1935 in Hudson, New York he is the son of the late Nicholas and Caroline (Greco) Marino. Sam was a veteran of the
United States Air Force
Military Police, serving during the Occupation of Germany. He was employed in maritime transportation aboard tug boats and a member of the Local 333. He was also a part-time house painter. He was a member of Joyce Schirick Post 1386
Veterans of Foreign Wars
and American Legion Post 150. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, was a fan of the New York Yankees and New York Football Giants. He was known locally for his bountiful gardens; where he gave away his produce. “He could grow anything...but money.” Surviving is his wife of 48 years; Elizabeth M. (Ruscus) Marino, one son; John Marino and his wife Linda of Kingston, a sister; Patricia Marino of Ocean View, N.J., grandchildren; Brandon Marino and his wife Kelly, Nicholas and Savanna Marino, two great-grandchildren; Noelle and Rachel Marino, daughters; Caroline and Joyce of Athens, N.Y., brothers-in-law; Ludwig Distler, David Ruscus and his wife Patricia, sister-in-law; Barbara Thompson and her husband Mike. Nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends in the Kingston area also survive. Three sisters; Betty Distler, Mary and Fanny Marino died previously. Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue Kingston.
. The Marino family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. Veterans rituals will be held at the following times: Post 150 - 7 p.m., Post 1386 - 7:30 p.m. The funeral procession will form Monday 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of contributions to Benedictine Sisters, 851 North Broad Street, Elizabeth, New Jersey 07208, Immaculate Conception Church, or the ASPCA of Ulster County.
