Bjorna Evelyn Miller LAKE KATRINE - Bjorna Evelyn Miller, loving and beloved daughter of Mona and Timothy Moore, sister of Tim Moore, III, and mother of Kacey Ann Miller, finished her seven year battle with breast cancer on Friday, May 10, 2013. She died in Kingston Hospital - the same hospital where she was born on April 21, 1967. Besides her immediate family, Bjorna is survived by cousins, aunts, uncles, and her many friends. Bjorna's parents are ever grateful they were blessed with such a wonderful daughter who brought joy and meaning to their lives for forty six years. Bjorna's easy-going nature, quick wit and warm smile won the hearts of all those who knew her. Her iron will and determination to live to the last possible moment garnered the respect and awe of all those who met her in these past seven years. Even her mother often said, “Bjorna is the bravest person I ever knew.” Bjorna willed herself through many setbacks in seven years so she would be able to raise her daughter Kacey - the loving focus of her life. We are especially grateful to her first oncologist, Dr. Mark Robson of Memorial Sloan Kettering, and to her local oncologist, Dr. Faisal Waheed of Kingston, for their expert and concerned care that enabled Bjorna to survive for seven years. Bjorna was a 1985 graduate of Coleman High School, but attended Saugerties schools until her senior year. She enjoyed classes at U.C.C.C. and was self-employed for several years before joining her brother's internet company, IDC, back in the 1990's. Always a hometown girl, she surprised everyone when she adapted to New York City life “in a New York Minute,” making friends and developing a penchant for sushi. However, her heart was always in the Ulster County area and returned whenever possible. During the winter months Bjorna enjoyed our family sport of skiing. She was a ski instructor at Highmount Ski Center on weekends for several years. Bjorna's remains are entrusted to the care of Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker Street, Woodstock, where there will be a Memorial Service/Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 18th, commencing at noon. We would appreciate it if you would bring a few written lines of your memories of Bjorna. You may read them aloud yourself or Kathy Larson will read them on your behalf. Private interment at Woodstock Cemetery will occur the next day. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Options -Camp Lightheart, 101 Hurley Avenue, Suite 10, Kingston, NY 12401. Bjorna will live on in the hearts and minds of those who loved her.
